Emmy winner stars in final five-week extension at the Hudson Theatre

NEW YORK—Tracee Ellis Ross has officially made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-nominated play Every Brilliant Thing. The six-time Emmy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner began performances on July 7 and will star through the production’s final performance on Aug. 9 at the Hudson Theatre.

Ms. Ross succeeds Daniel Radcliffe, who originated the Broadway production earlier this year, and Mariska Hargitay, who took over the role for a limited engagement through July 5.

An uplifting and interactive theatrical experience

Written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, Every Brilliant Thing tells the story of one person’s lifelong search for hope during difficult times. The play unfolds through a growing list of life’s simple joys, inviting audience members to become part of the storytelling.

Director Jeremy Herrin creates an intimate theatrical experience that changes slightly with every performance because of its audience interaction. As a result, no two performances feel exactly alike.

The production first enjoyed success in London’s West End before transferring to Broadway. It began previews at the Hudson Theatre on Feb. 21 and officially opened on March 12.

A critically acclaimed Broadway hit

Critics have embraced Every Brilliant Thing throughout its Broadway run. The production earned Tony Award nominations for Best Revival of a Play and Best Leading Actor in a Play for Daniel Radcliffe. In addition, it received two Drama League Award nominations and won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Performance.

The production also reached another milestone by recouping its $5.75 million Broadway capitalization. Producers have already announced a national tour beginning in Seattle in 2027.

StageZine called Every Brilliant Thing “a moving, life-affirming theatrical experience that reminds us to celebrate the small moments that make life worth living.”

Supporting mental health awareness

Beyond the stage, Every Brilliant Thing continues its partnership with Project Healthy Minds, a nonprofit organization that expands access to mental health resources across the United States.

The collaboration provides theatergoers with information about therapists, support groups, crisis resources and other mental health services. The partnership also includes special audience events and educational programming throughout the Broadway engagement.
