NEW YORK— Dirty Dancing: The Musical will make its Broadway debut in 2027, just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the hit 1987 film.
The new touring production begins performances February 12, 2027, at the Lena Horne Theatre. A gala performance follows March 14. The strictly limited engagement runs through September 5, 2027.
Baby and Johnny head to Broadway
Set in the Catskills in 1963, Dirty Dancing follows Frances “Baby” Houseman and dance instructor Johnny Castle. Their summer romance soon becomes a story of love, independence and standing up for what they believe.
Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the original film, also wrote the stage version. In addition, Tony Award nominee and two-time Emmy Award winner Lonny Price directs. Mr. Price has a special connection to the material. He played Neil Kellerman in the original movie.
Darrell Grand Moultrie (Fat Ham, Beyoncé’s World Tour) choreographs.
New stars take the lead
Annalese Starzec stars as Baby opposite Blake Zelesnikar as Johnny. Both will make their Broadway debuts. In fact, 21 members of the 27-person company will make their Broadway debuts with the production.
The musical also features several songs closely associated with the film, including “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes,” “Do You Love Me?” and “She’s Like the Wind.”
