Bowen Yang to Make Broadway Debut in Oh, Mary!

NEW YORK — Five-time Emmy Award nominee Bowen Yang will make his Broadway acting debut this fall, stepping into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in the Tony Award-winning comedy Oh, Mary!.

The “Saturday Night Live” star and “Las Culturistas” co-host begins performances September 15 at the Lyceum Theatre. His limited 12-week engagement runs through December 6, 2026.

“My friendship with Cole has brought me many places over the years,” Yang said of playwright and original star Cole Escola. He called joining Escola’s “deranged and profound masterpiece” his favorite adventure yet.

Bowen Yang joins a long line of Marys

Yang succeeds Meg Stalter, who plays her final performance September 12. Hannah Solow takes over for one performance on September 13.

Yang joins a celebrated lineup of performers who have played the famously boozy and frustrated first lady. They include Escola, Betty Gilpin, Tituss Burgess, Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, John Cameron Mitchell, Maya Rudolph, Stalter and Solow.

Continuing cast members include Phillip James Brannon as Mary’s Husband, Barrett Foa as Mary’s Teacher and Bianca Leigh as Mary’s Chaperone. Original cast member Tony Macht returns as Mary’s Teacher’s Assistant.

Yang earned five Emmy nominations for his work on “Saturday Night Live.” His screen credits include the Wicked films, Fire Island, The Wedding Banquet and Dicks: The Musical. He also wrote for the first season of “Schmigadoon!” and co-produced Titaníque’s Tony-nominated Broadway run.

The Broadway production has released a new block of tickets through July 10, 2027.

The Broadway success has also expanded internationally. Oh, Mary! currently has an Olivier Award-winning West End production, while a North American tour launches in Hartford, Connecticut, this September.
