(New York, NY) – Producers Kenny Wax, Wendy & Andy Barnes, George Stiles and Kevin McCollum announced today that the electrifying new musical phenomenon SIX by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss will open on Broadway this Spring at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W 47th St, NYC) on March 12, 2020. From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, SIX the wives of Henry VIII take the mic to reclaim their identities out of the shadow of their infamous spouse—remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an exuberant celebration of 21st century girl power. The female cast, soon to be announced, are backed by an all-female band, the “Ladies in Waiting.” Songs from the studio album are streamed on average 300,000 per day making it the second highest streaming cast recording in the world.

SIX is co-directed by Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage, featuring choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. The design team includes Emma Bailey (Set Design), Gabriella Slade (Costume Design), Paul Gatehouse (Sound Design) and Tim Deiling (Lighting Design). The score features orchestrations by Tom Curran with music supervision and vocal arrangements by Joe Beighton.

24-year-old Toby Marlow and 25-year-old Lucy Moss devised the original concept and started writing SIX when they were students at Cambridge University in early 2017. It was first presented as the Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society’s submission to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe later that year, playing a one-month run and featuring student actors. SIX went on to get picked up by UK Producers and a new production was mounted, with professional actors and a predominantly new creative team, at the Norwich Playhouse and then again at Edinburgh Festival in 2018. A limited engagement at the Arts Theatre in London garnered the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West End Production and the show toured the UK in the autumn of 2018 before reopening at the Arts Theatre in January 2019, where it is now playing an open-ended West End run to sold out houses. SIX earned five Laurence Olivier Award nominations this year, including Best New Musical. A UK tour opens in October 2019 and will run concurrently with the London production.

Partnering with US Producer Kevin McCollum, SIX made its North American premiere in May of this year at Chicago Shakespeare Theater in Chicago, IL in a record-breaking run ending this Sunday, August 4. Prior to Broadway, the show will play limited engagements at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge, MA (August 21 – September 7), the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, AB Canada (November 2-24) and the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in Saint Paul, MN (November 29 – December 22).

BIOGRAPHIES

TOBY MARLOW (Writer) is a composer, writer and attention-seeker based in the UK. He now writes musicals and songs, and also comedies about homosexual time-travel. He is 1/2 of musical theatre writing duo Marlow & Moss along with friend and collaborator Lucy Moss, and he is also 1/3 of Hot Gay Time Machine, along with friend and collaborator Lucy Moss and also fellow hot gay Zak Ghazi-Torbati. Toby’s recent (and pretty much only) credits include SIX, a pop-concert musical about the six wives of Henry VIII co-written with friend and collaborator Lucy Moss, and Hot Gay Time Machine, a musical-comedy-cabaret-extravaGAYnza, performed by Toby and Zak, directed by Lucy, and written by all three; the trio also wrote for Courtney Act’s Christmas Extravaganza (Channel 4). Toby is currently working on new projects with Lucy, which he is super excited about.

LUCY MOSS (Writer/Director) is one half of Marlow and Moss, the writing duo behind SIX. She is also one of the show’s directors. Writer-director credits include: the multi-award-winning Hot Gay Time Machine (Trafalgar Studios, Edinburgh Fringe) – with whom she has also written for Courtney Act’s “Christmas Extravaganza” (Channel 4); An evening with Marlow and Moss (lol) (Live At Zedel). Previous directorial credits include: Pelican: Fisk (Soho Theatre); Pelican: The Cat Man Curse (Soho Theatre); Wasted (Edinburgh Fringe); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (US Tour). Credits as associate/assistant include: Boris: World King (Trafalgar Studios); Monster (Perth Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe) and Red Wolf (Vaults). KENNY WAX (Producer) Kenny is the producer of the five times Olivier nominated SIX currently playing in London at the Arts Theatre, The Play That Goes Wrong (Laurence Olivier Award – Best New Comedy), now in its fifth year at the Duchess Theatre, on a US tour and playing off-Broadway at New World Stages; Peter Pan Goes Wrong which played two West End seasons, The Comedy About A Bank Robbery which has just celebrated its third birthday at the Criterion Theatre. He produced the West End musicals Top Hat and Once on this Island which both won Laurence Olivier Awards for Best New Musical. He has toured Stiles and Drewe’s Honk, Aspects of Love, La Strada, and The Witches of Eastwick. From September he will be producing three new comedies as part of a year-long Mischief Season at the Vaudeville Theatre. In June 2017, Kenny was appointed President of the Society of London Theatre.

WENDY BARNES & ANDY BARNES for GLOBAL MUSICALS (Producers). Global Musicals was founded in 2017 by Andy and Wendy Barnes to produce new musicals. They are the producer of the five times Olivier nominated SIX currently playing in London at the Arts Theatre, and Club Mex, a new immersive nightclub musical heading for London in 2020. Global are currently developing another new musical, Pieces of String, which was recently nominated for Best New Musical at the UK Theatre Awards after an initial run at Mercury Theatre, Colchester. Previous joint producing credits include: Lift (Soho Theatre); The Little Beasts (The Other Palace); The Great British Musical (Criterion); From Up Here (South Hill Park); The House of Mirrors and Hearts (Arcola) and Danny Hero (The Core); As development producers: The Go-Between (West Yorkshire Playhouse, Royal and Derngate, Derby Live) and Pieces of String (Mercury Theatre, Colchester); As associate producers: The Go-Between (Apollo Theatre, West End). GEORGE STILES (Producer) A native of the UK, George is best known as an award-winning composer of stage musicals such as the international smash-hit Disney/Cameron Mackintosh stage version of Mary Poppins (6 years on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre, and US Tour); the Olivier Award winning Honk!; Betty Blue Eyes (Novello Theatre, West End); the new Cameron Mackintosh production of Half A Sixpence (Chichester Festival Theatre and West End); Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre); The Wind in the Willows (The London Palladium) and Soho Cinders – all written with lyricist Anthony Drewe. However, he’s delighted to be making his debut as a producer with SIX, having seen the 2017 student production in Cambridge, England and got more excited than his doctor recommends. He’s also very happy to be working with three champions of new British musicals Kenny Wax and Wendy & Andy Barnes, as well as Broadway legend Kevin McCollum. KEVIN McCOLLUM (Producer) has received the Tony Award for Best Musical for In the Heights (2008), Avenue Q (2004), and Rent (1996), which also won the Pulitzer Prize. He is currently represented off-Broadway and on tour with the Olivier Award-winning The Play That Goes Wrong. He produced Mike Birbiglia’s The New One (Broadway), Something Rotten! (Broadway, National Tour), Hand to God (Broadway, West End), Motown: The Musical (Broadway, West End, National Tour, and UK Tour), The Drowsy Chaperone in 2006, which won five Tony Awards, Baz Luhrmann’s production of Puccini’s La Boheme in 2002, [title of show] in 2008, the touring and Broadway productions of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, the off Broadway hit De La Guarda, the recent hit revival of West Side Story. Upcoming projects include the West Side Story film (directed by Steven Spielberg); The Notebook, Mrs. Doubtfire and The Devil Wears Prada. In 1995 Mr. McCollum co-founded the Producing Office, and has since created Alchemation, a theatrical and media producing company committed to new work. Mr. McCollum was trained at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and earned his Master’s degree in film producing from the Peter Stark Program at the University of Southern California. In 1995, he received the Robert Whitehead Award for Outstanding Commercial Theatre Producing.
