June 6, 2019 – Winner of the 2019 Olivier Award, Evening Standard Award, and London Critics Circle Award for Best New Play, Matthew Lopez’s epic two-part play, THE INHERITANCE, will bow on Broadway this fall, announced producers Tom Kirdahy, Sonia Friedman Productions and Hunter Arnold.

Directed by multi Olivier and Tony Award-winner Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, Netflix’s “The Crown”) and designed by Olivier and Tony Award winner Bob Crowley, THE INHERITANCE will begin previews at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theater (243 West 47th street) on Friday, September 27, 2019 and will officially open on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

It begins with a gathering of young, gay New Yorkers. Each has a story aching to come out…

Profoundly touching and wickedly hilarious, Matthew Lopez’s highly-anticipated two-part play, THE INHERITANCE, asks how much we owe to those who lived and loved before us, and questions the role we must play for future generations. Brilliantly re-envisioning E. M. Forster’s masterpiece Howards End to 21st-century New York, it follows the interlinking lives of three generations of gay men searching for a community of their own – and a place to call home.

THE INHERITANCE is a life-affirming journey of tears and laughter, through conflicts and connections, heartbreak and hope. A new play, generations in the making.

The creative team for THE INHERITANCE includes scenic and costume designer Bob Crowley, lighting designer Jon Clark, sound designer Paul Arditti, and music by Paul Englishby. General Management is by RCI Theatricals. Casting by Jordan Thaler, CSA & Heidi Griffiths, CSA, Julia Horan CDG.

Casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

THE INHERITANCE had its world premiere at London’s Young Vic Theatre from March 2 through May 19, 2018. The acclaimed production transferred to the West End, where it played a limited engagement September 21, 2018 through January 19, 2019.

LONDON–The Olivier Awards with MasterCard are delighted to announce that two worldwide musical stars will be joining the line-up for the 40th Anniversary Ceremony. Grammy and Tony Award-winning musician Cyndi Lauper is set to perform both on her own and in a unique collaboration following the seven nominations for Kinky Boots, which features music written by Cyndi. Michael Feinstein, master of The Great American Songbook, will also be performing on the night, joining a variety of past winners in a special 40th anniversary segment.

The Nominees for Best Musical Revival are Bugsy Malone, Guys and Dolls, Gypsy and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

Kit Harington, Amber Riley and the cast of The Maids – Laura Carmichael, Uzo Aduba and Zawe Ashton – are also joining the line-up on the night. Clarke, Paul Copley, Daniel Evans, Julia McKenzie, Lesley Manville, Vanessa Redgrave, Juliet Stevenson, Zoë Wanamaker and Leigh Zimmerman

More performers and presenters will be announced shortly.

The awards will be hosted by double Olivier Award-winning Michael Ball.

400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s Death Marked at Olivier Awards With Jack Savoretti’s Performance

In other Olivier Awards news, Jack Savoretti is set to perform at the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard on Sunday 3 April at the Royal Opera House in an exclusive performance to mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. The performance is inspired by 2002 album When Loves Speaks, a collection of Shakespeare’s sonnets interpreted in spoken word and song which was co-curated by Alan Rickman.

Many of the album’s contributors are past Olivier Award winners including Juliet Stevenson, who will be presenting an award at the ceremony, and 2016 nominees Kenneth Branagh and Imelda Staunton.

Savoretti’s performance of Sonnet 18, widely known for its opening line ‘Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer’s Day?’, will be introduced by two-time Olivier Award winner Rory Kinnear – the last person to win an Oliver Award for a Shakespeare role.

2016 has been a breakout year for Jack Savoretti, with his latest album Written In Scars hitting the Top 10 in the UK. Currently on a European tour, he will be playing a sold-out headline show as part of Summer Series at Somerset House.

The awards, which this year celebrate their 40th anniversary, will be hosted by two-time winner Michael Ball.

The ceremony will be broadcast in the UK on ITV and Mellow Magic, Magic Radio’s new digital station. Shortly after the ceremony, extended highlights will be broadcast on ITV 1 at 22:15. The full ceremony will be shown on ITV 3 on Monday 4 April at 23:00. Both broadcasts will be available on the ITV Hub for the following 30 days. Mellow Magic will broadcast the ceremony live.

International audiences will be able to watch the full broadcast of the star-studded ceremony on the Olivier Awards’ new YouTube channel from 22:00 (BST) on Sunday 3 April. (www.youtube.com/olivierawards).
